Following a new training plan

I’m back It’s been a while since my last blog post but I desperately needed that break, big time. Both a break from my training and also from blogging
Don’t think I was just lazy and spent most of the time on the couch of doom ‘cos you couldn’t be more wrong. During the [...]

A whole new experience

As I told you guys earlier from now on I aim to stay in the aerobic zone in all of my workouts, thus the strict observation of my heart rate.

…In my previous workouts I thought that I should aim to exercise at a cadence of about 65. Apparently i was wrong ‘cos when I started pedaling today I immediately noticed that my HR was way too low at that cadence. … I chose the latter and pedaled at a cadence of about 75 rpm resulting at heart rates between 137 and 148.

…In addition to the 25 minute workout I threw in a 5 minute cool-down / recovery period (actually it lasted 7 minutes).

A quick test

As you probably noticed I hadn’t been too active in the past few days. In fact, I took a short break after my disastrous run last Thursday to fully recover.
Today, I felt compelled to check my form and to see how much my body has regenerated in those days. So, I inserted a short workout [...]

first biking session with my new Profile Design Tri Stryke CroMo saddle

I’ve just finished my first workout on the bike trainer using/sitting on the Profile Design Tri Stryke CroMo saddle and all I can say is: Wow :) This is one great piece of a saddle.

…This time I tried to remain in the aero position as long as possible, trying to move my upper body as little as possible while staring at a spot somewhere at the wall (simulating a fixed point at the horizon when riding the bike on the road).

…At about 30 minutes in the workout I couldn’t keep that position any longer (of course I’ve moved my head and upper body a couple of times during the first half hour of the workout) so I had to get my body up straight for a couple of minutes.

Improving the cadence: 35 minutes of spinning

I would have never guessed that spinning could be that fun, but when during yesterday’s 35 minutes cycling workout I noticed that even working out on an indoor cycle trainer can be great fun.
At 7:30 PM I started one of my favorite TV shows, set the alarm clock to ring 45 minutes later and [...]

Easy workout on the bike trainer

Thank god there are workouts like this one. When I got up on Friday my thighs and calves were longing for rest. That was a request I couldn’t possibly grant, but as I’m a very nice guy, I waited until 7 PM until I hopped on the bike and started this week’s long cycling workout.
The [...]

35 never-ending minutes

But as I’m a very stubborn person I tried to force my body to do what I want and not what it told me to do, thus keeping it easy and comfortable.

…I could tell you now about how great I performed in the workout, that I maintained in the aero position until the end, but the truth is that I was suffering from minute 5 until the alarm went off.Yes, keeping aero position even though I felt bad was quite remarkable, but I should have selected an easier level the moment I had realized that I wanted too much.

I’m beginning to like cycling

Surprise, surprise: I’m starting to like the cycling workouts. When I started with working out on the bike trainer in late november every training session was a real pain and every time I was happy when time was up and I could get off the bike.

…When I stepped off the bike after an hour my shirt (Nike Pro Vent long sleeve) was all sweaty, quite funny ‘cos after a run it has never been that wet before, not even after a hot humid summer run, but I guess it’s due to the fact that it was an indoor session.
